In the aftermath of the international friendly between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, head coach Jose Peseiro expressed his frustration over his team’s inability to convert their chances into goals, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
Peseiro attributed the Super Eagles’ failure to score more than two goals to a lack of a “killer instinct” among the strikers.
Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities and dominating possession against the Green Falcons, Nigeria couldn’t capitalize on their chances.
The game marked only the second meeting between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, with the teams unable to be separated, just as in their previous encounter 13 years ago, which was also a friendly match.
The match saw Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze missing first-half chances to take the lead.
The Saudis took a shock lead on the hour mark when goalkeeper Francis Uzoho accidentally palmed a free-kick from Salman Al Faraj into his own net.
Coach Peseiro subsequently made several substitutions, introducing Terem Moffi for the injured Osimhen, and bringing in Bright Osayi-Samuel, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Moses Simon to replace Tyronne Ebuehi, Lookman, and Chukwueze.
Despite the frustration of not securing a win, Peseiro recognized the team’s strong performance, particularly in the first half, when they created multiple opportunities.

However, he emphasized the need for a more ruthless approach in front of goal.
Peseiro’s focus on improving the squad’s finishing abilities indicates a commitment to refining the Super Eagles’ performance as they continue their preparations for future challenges.
Nigerian football fans will be eager to see how the team addresses these issues and aims to become more clinical in their attacking play.
