Fidelis Ilechukwu, the coach of Enugu Rangers, has voiced his concerns following his side’s thrilling 4-3 defeat against Katsina United in the NPFL.
Despite the excitement of a high-scoring affair, Ilechukwu lamented the defensive lapses that led to conceding four goals, emphasizing the need for improvement in the team’s performance.
“It was a great game for both teams,” Ilechukwu began, reflecting on the match’s intensity. “Scoring three goals in a match is not an easy feat.”
“In a game that we cannot be able to defend well,” he continued, “I don’t think it’s good for the image of the team to concede 4 goals.”
In his post-match analysis, Ilechukwu acknowledged the significance of scoring three goals but emphasized that conceding four goals is unacceptable in football.
He expressed regret over the end of their unbeaten streak but asserted the necessity of moving forward and learning from the experience.
“The positive is, scoring three goals is one of the important things,” Ilechukwu noted optimistically.
As a coach, Ilechukwu highlighted his responsibility to identify and rectify defensive errors, ensuring that the team addresses its vulnerabilities.
He stressed the importance of defensive solidity for the team’s image and overall performance in future matches.
Despite the disappointment of defeat, Ilechukwu found solace in the positive aspects of the game, particularly the scoring prowess displayed by his players.
He expressed confidence that rested players returning from injury would make a positive impact in upcoming fixtures, signaling a determination to bounce back stronger.
“And the players who have rested because of one, two knocks or the other will come back. I know when they come back they will make a positive impact in the next game.”
As the NPFL title race intensifies, Ilechukwu’s reflections underscore the ongoing quest for defensive resilience and consistency in Enugu Rangers’ pursuit of success in the league.
