Coach Elegbede: “We Held Our Nerve” as SGFC Emerge Winners of Jagaban Cup 2025

Coach Elegbede Mohamed of SGFC Athletics Sport Club expressed immense excitement following his team’s dramatic 5-4 penalty win over 36 Lions FC in the Jagaban Cup 2025 final. Described by many as outsiders coming all the way from Ilorin, going into the match, SGFC defied expectations to emerge as champions of the tournament.

In a post-match interview with Sports247, Coach Elegbede reflected on the game and the team’s journey:

“It was exciting—so exciting. We entered the game as outsiders, and many doubted our ability to compete. We won our first match, then the second, and although the final against 36 Lions was tough since they were the hosts, we held our nerve and clinched the win on penalties.”

When asked a fun question about a celebrity he would have loved to see at the final, the coach didn’t hesitate.

“I would have loved for Lionel Messi to be there. His style of play and his achievements set an example for every footballer. He’s one of the best in the world, and his presence would have inspired us even more.”

Looking ahead, Coach Elegbede emphasized the need to maintain momentum in the league, adding,

“We’re playing in the NLO and our goal is to keep the team in top shape. We need to continue winning to secure our future in any competition. This victory is just the start.”

With this win, SGFC has not only defied the odds but also set a positive tone for the remainder of the season.
