The long wait is finally over as female grassroots clubs on the Plateau match unto the pitch of play in a first of its kind organized grassroots competition for girls on the Plateau by the Plateau State Football Association.
Speaking at the draw ceremony held at the Plateau State Football Association Secretariat, the PFA Chairman, Sunday Samson Longbap, said it’s very imperative to give the talented girls on the Plateau a platform to showcase their God-given talents, hence, fulfilling their dreams of playing professional football.
On his own part, the draws, graced and chaired by the Chairman, Nigeria Nationwide League, and Nasarawa State FA Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, commended the Plateau State FA for the giant stride of becoming one of the few states in the country with a state league for the ladies.
He promised to give his support to make the set goal of the maiden league accomplished.
The Chairman of the Plateau State Female League committee, Larry Gowon, said no stone will be left unturned in returning Plateau State back to d echelon of female football in Nigeria via this league and called on all and sundry to join hands with him and his committee members in making it a reality.
It would be recalled that Coach Ismaila Mabo, after leading the Super Falcons to a quarter-final finish in both the FIFA Women world cup USA 99 and in the 2004 Athens Olympics, still remain the most successful Coach to date that has handled a female team in Africa; and some of the players that achieved this feat with the Plateau State-born Mabo for Nigeria were Jos based players!
