Grassroots football in Anambra State is set to witness another change in fortune as efforts are being made and logistics put in place for the commencement of the ‘Club Owners League Competition’ in the state.
This disclosure was made by the Chairman, Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Caretaker Committee, Dr. Chukwuemeka Okeke, during a press conference with the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria. Dr. Okeke emphasized that hitherto a meeting of the ANSFA Caretaker Committee and Club Owners held for the first time in the state to acknowledge them for their investment and sacrifices as well as to support them in their quest and football development objectives.
Dr. Okeke opined that as a way of setting into motion the process for kick-starting the ‘Club Owners League’ football competition, the prize money won by Aspire FC in the 2019 Neros Anambra FA Cup will be given to them to fast track the commencement of the league in the state. The proprietor of Aspire FC also revealed that the club owners will be ambassadors of the ‘My Anambra Football’ campaign aimed at taking football to the grassroots level and promoting local football.
He thanked the club owners for their immense contributions which have led to players now having a career and earning a living via football as well as taking the youths out of the street.
