Nigeria’s only gold medalist at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rosemary Chukwuma has confessed that route to her getting the achievement did not come easy.
Speaking on arrival back home from the 2018 Games, Chukwuma told sports247.ng that it took a lot of work and commitment on her part to achieve the feat.
She, however, confessed further that she had to overcome stage fright during the competition proper in Argentina, as she was nervous, which affected her at the start of the event.
Chukwuma, though, said she was happy that she was able to overcome stage fright and go on to make Nigeria proud, for which she also thanked her coaches and officials for their support.
She expressed appreciation for winning the gold medal and standing out in Team Nigeria’s contingent, for which she is now aiming at more national honour in future.
Speaking to sports247.ng on arrival at the airport in Abuja, Chukwuma said: “It was very challenging for me to win gold in the 100m.
“I remain grateful to my coaches, all the officials, my teammates and God for all of them making it possible. I will always be proud to be a Nigerian.”
