Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze against missed action with his club last weekend, as he could only watch from the bench, as The Yellow Submarine took a step closer to escaping relegation.
Villarreal have been in a stern fight to avoid demotion from La Liga, with Chukwueze initially playing a key role in their efforts, but sports247.ng reports that he was again on the sidelines for all 90 minutes at Estadio de la Ceramica, as his team got a 3-0 victory over Sevilla on Sunday.
While Chukwueze watched on, Alvaro Gonzalez, Karl Toko Ekambi and Alfonso Pedraza scored for Villarreal to secure a first league win for the side since November 25.
The win moves Villarreal a point from safety, while Sevilla are fourth, 18 points behind leaders Barcelona, but Chukwueze will seek to get a role and better impact with his squad moving forward.
The return of his preferred coach, Javier Calleja, who was responsible for Chukwueze’s breakthrough into the club’s main team late last year has not helped the Super Eagles’ rookie’s fortunes.
Though Calleja had been touted as the man to keep Chukwueze in the squad, the gaffer appears to lack enough trust in the Chile 2015 FIFA U8-17 World Cup gold medalist to aid his battle against relegation.
