Despite being given the opportunity to compete in an older age group, the 12-year-old prodigy seized the chance and triumphed in both divisions.
In the Boys 14 final, Amasiani faced off against Gbolahan Olawale from Akure. The match proved to be a thrilling contest, highlighting the young player’s determination and resilience. Amasiani’s powerful shots and unwavering temperament ultimately secured him victory, solidifying his status as a rising star in Nigerian tennis.
The Boys 12 championship match saw Amasiani go head-to-head with Joel Michael from Lagos. Michael, well aware of Amasiani’s formidable abilities, faced a formidable challenge. However, Amasiani’s exceptional firepower on the court proved too much for Michael to handle. With his exceptional skills and commendable focus, Amasiani emerged triumphant, further cementing his reputation as a promising talent.
Godwin Kienka, the Director of the International Tennis Academy and organizer of the tournament, spoke highly of Amasiani’s potential. Drawing parallels with renowned tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, Kienka commended Amasiani for possessing not only exceptional skill but also the heart and temperament necessary to excel in the sport. Kienka expressed his belief that, with the right support and guidance, Amasiani could become a world-class player and achieve great success in international tennis.
The Girls 14 final featured a captivating clash between Gloria Samuel from Ekiti and Fego Ayetuoma from the Kodian Academy in Port Harcourt. The match showcased the remarkable talent and competitive spirit of both young players. In the end, it was Samuel who emerged victorious, displaying her impressive skills and earning recognition as a rising star in Nigerian junior tennis.
Meanwhile, in the Girls 12 category, Mofifun Atilola from Lagos and Favour Okon-James from Akwa Ibom faced off in an intense battle. The match demonstrated the determination and skill of these young athletes, who exhibited great promise in their pursuit of tennis excellence. Ultimately, Atilola emerged as the victor, capturing the title and leaving a lasting impression with her exceptional performance.
The grand finale, held at the tennis facility of former president Goodluck Jonathan, also included a coaching clinic aimed at imparting basic tennis skills to approximately 200 school children from Yenagoa. This initiative aimed to promote grassroots development and nurture the next generation of Nigerian tennis players.
