In a thrilling encounter at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, Sunshine Stars FC of Akure triumphed over Rangers International of Enugu with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to Stephen Chukwude’s 42nd-minute strike.
The match, part of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday six, showcased the home side’s dominance right from the start.
Chukwude, a former player for Rangers and Heartland FC, found the back of the net with a precise shot into the top corner, converting a pass from Chinedu Nwosu.

Despite several missed opportunities, including a near-miss that could have seen Sunshine Stars lead by four goals at halftime, they managed to maintain their slim lead throughout the second half.
The reigning NPFL champions, Rangers, attempted to fight back but were effectively stifled by Sunshine Stars’ resolute defense.
Coach Kennedy Boboye praised his team’s performance, emphasizing the need to improve their goal-scoring abilities.
“It was a good game; the most important thing is the three points we have because it’s one game after the other,” he remarked after the match.
Sunshine Stars currently sit fourth on the league table and will next face Kwara United in Ilorin for a midweek clash.
