According to a French outlet L’Equipe, RC Lens and Middlesbrough FC have agreed on a deal in principle for the transfer of the 27-year-old forward who is set to sign a four-year deal with the Artois side.
The French publication understands that Lens and the Championship side have shaken hands over a €11m transfer fee, with a further €2m possible in performance-related bonuses for Akpom who was entering his final year of contract with Middlesbrough.
Last season, he had a remarkable season with a 28-goal tally output with Boro, but it was not enough for Michael Carrick’s side to earn a spot in the Premier League.
RC Lens was in the market for a center-forward following the €50m club-record sale of Belgium international Loïs Openda to RB Leipzig. With RC Lens, Chuba Akpom will be able to feature in the Champions League group stage.
