Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe has been recognized as one of the standout players in the 2023/24 Portuguese BPI League, earning a spot in the prestigious Team of the Season.
Ucheibe’s selection comes after a remarkable year in which she played a vital role in Benfica Feminino’s incredible success, helping the team secure a historic quadruple.
The Nigerian international contributed to victories in the Campeonato Nacional, Taça de Portugal, Taça da Liga, and the Campeonato Nacional II Divisão, showcasing her importance to the squad.
Her standout performances extended to the international stage, where she featured in eleven UEFA Women’s Champions League matches, netting a goal and reinforcing her status as a key figure in midfield.
Ucheibe’s form continued into the new season, earning her the title of Best Player in the Algarve Women’s Trophy in August. She played a pivotal role in Benfica’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Sevilla at the Algarve Stadium.
“God is not done with me yet! All glory to God almighty,” Ucheibe said after the match, expressing her gratitude for her accomplishments.
The 23-year-old midfielder, originally from Abia, Nigeria, has made 68 appearances for Benfica since joining in 2020, scoring four goals. A product of Nasarawa Amazons, Ucheibe has also represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels and has earned 61 caps for the Super Falcons since 2022, scoring once.
