The Honourable Commissioner for Sports Rivers State, Christopher Green (Esq) has enthusiastically praised the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike for redeeming the largesse earlier promised the players and management of Rivers United for winning the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.
Recall, while hosting the team to a grand reception at the Rivers State Government House in July, Governor Wike promised each member of Rivers United a sum of 20,000 dollars.
While speaking in a press briefing earlier today in Port-Harcourt, Christopher Green extolled Governor Wike for his magnanimity and unending support to the club.
“I am not even surprised because it’s part of him; His Excellency the Governor of Rivers State is a giver, he has a ministry of giving, like I have always said you cannot meet him and go back empty that is the kind of person he is. He is so compassionate, he is so benevolent. I am saying it with all amount of responsibility, his Excellency never, for once stopped in the support of this team, we are the only team in this country that pays our players round the year even when they are not playing we are paying them.”
The beneficiaries of the 20,000 dollars (#15,600,000) gift include 47-man triumphant players and member staff of Rivers United who finished at the top of the league with a record 77 points from 38 games last season.
