Super Falcons alternate captain, Rita Chikwelu has stated appreciation to the leadership of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for motivating the players to success at the recent Africa Women Cup of Nations in Ghana.
Sports247.ng gathered that, in the wake of recent reports that the NFF have also doled out lump sums to offset bonuses and allowances owed the players, Chikwelu deemed it right to thank buffs of The Glasshouse.
Consequently, Chikwelu said she and her colleagues are grateful to the NFF for fulfilling all promises made to them before and during the 11th AWCON in Ghana, where they emerged triumphant to third successive time and ninth time overall, returning home with the glittering trophy.
Chikwelu confirmed that the Falcons have received their pre-AWCON camp allowances, match bonuses and dues at the competition, plus $10,000 per player promise by NFF president, Amaju Melvin Pinnick.
Speaking before the Falcons’ contingent left camp, yet await word on a planned reception by President Muhammadu Buhari, Chikwelu thanked the NFF for their welfare packages and fulfilling all financial obligations.
Chikwelu said: “I want to use this opportunity to thank the Nigeria Football Federation for their support throughout our preparation and participation at the Women AFCON.
“They were there all through the pre-tournament camping programmes in Epe and Abidjan and all through the competition in Ghana and since we returned to Nigeria.
“We also want to appreciate the NFF for fulfilling their promises, paying all our bonuses and allowances and doubling our match bonus for the final.
“I want to say a very big thank you to the NFF President, the Board and the Management, and we pray that God will bless them and all Nigerians for their support.”
