Chikelue Iloenyosi Gives Conditions Super Eagles’ Next Coach Must Follow

Former national team defender, Chikelue Iloenyosi (aka General) has given some conditions that must be accepted by the Super Eagles’ next coach before signing his contract and taking over the saddle.

While expressing his strong preference for the appointment of an indigenous coach to handle the team, Iloenyosi stressed that anyone hoping to take over the squad must be ready to live in Nigeria.

He added that the Eagles’ next gaffer should be ready to monitor matches in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in order to build a strong home-based team that will be able to win the Championship of African Nations (CHAN).

The current chairman of Anambra State Football Association concluded with a terse verdict that time is running out and urged the decision makers in Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to decide on whom they will give the job to, indigenous or foreign.

He, however, stressed that the NFF should pick a tactician of repute to bring out the best in Nigeria’s array of top-class players.

The member of Nigeria’s team to the FIFA U20 World Cup on home soil in 1999 also charged the NFF to avoid repeating what he believes was a mistake in giving the job to the defensive minded Jose Paseiro.

“We have the best quality of players in Africa. So, now we need a coach that has ability and character,” Iloenyosi began.

“Whether it’s home-based coach, local coach … anyone that is going to come now should be a person who will make sure the Super Eagles move to the next level.

“I am tired of all those coaches that give us nothing. I am happy that Paseiro went, because the pattern he gave the team was not helping us.

“We have good players that can even make sure we carry the World Cup. I am happy that he went.

“Let’s now get a coach that will live in Nigeria and give us a strong home-based Eagles. That’s the most important thing for me.”
