Chidozie Awaziem has stated that Nigeria is prepared for their upcoming match against Ecuador, while also providing his assessment of Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro. The Alanyaspor defender lasted the distance in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Mexico on Sunday, May 29.
Ahead of the next friendly against Ecuador on Friday, June 3rd at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, Awaziem believes the team is ready to perform well against the South Americans. He said on NFF TV:
“We are all prepared for the second game against Ecuador and the training session went well. Everyone was ready in training and it was really a tough one. But I hope we will all be ready for the game against Ecuador and everyone is really in good shape.
“Nigerians should expect nothing but the best. We will give our best to come out with a victory. As we know the Super Eagles, we always want to win and this is our culture and we always want to give our best even if it is a friendly or in competition. But right now we are just focused on the game against Ecuador to make sure we come out with a good one.”
The 25-year-old also passed his assessment on Eagles mew boss Peseiro. Awaziem describes the Portuguese as someone who likes his team to play on the front foot and have control of the game. He said:
“The coach is someone who likes to play football, who likes his team to enjoy themselves in the game and also to have control of the game. He is a coach that pushes a lot and right now he pushes us a lot and he tries to possess the game as much as possible.”
After the friendly, Nigeria will turn their attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they will face Sierra Leone on June 9 in their Group A opener in Abuja, before flying off to Mauritius to face the East Africans four days later.
