Head Coach Of Chekas United Football Club, Bob Benson has revealed his team’s success in the Fusion Football Championship which kicked off on Thursday in Lagos.
Chekas United came from behind to defeat Divine Praise Football Club 2-1 in the entertaining encounter which was watched by hundreds of fans at the FIFA legacy pitch of national stadium, Surulere.
Benson told Sports247 after the encounter that his team were determined and focused which earned them a victory against their opponents.
“We came to this league with a mindset to win all our matches and the players in the other hands were more determined and resilient in their approach and this is a good start for us and we would build on it ahead of our subsequent matches,”he said.
Benson also commended their opponents for giving them a good fight but noted that his boys were disciplined, focused and agressive on the field of play.
But Divine Praise coach, Nwenwe Victor blamed his players for lack of concentration and disagreed that their opponents were better to have won the game.
“Our opponents are averaged team and I don’t want to accept that they are better than us all I can say is that they were determined and took their chances which earned them undeserved victory,”he said.
In his swift reaction chairman of Chekas United Chekwube Uzoegbo laughed off with Victor’s comment saying that he should accept the result in good faith.
“If we are not better than them how come we score two goals from behind I think the coach should accept the fact that Chekas United are better and stronger.
“Having said that, let me use this medium to congratulate my players, coaching crew for this hard fought victory.It was a good start for us and I hope we can finish well at the end of the league,”he said.
Harrison Ofonime scored his first goal for Divine Praise in the 32th minutes but Chekas United quickly responded through James Okeke.
In the second half, Chekas United intensified its effort as Effiong Sunday scored superb goal to condemn their opponents to defeat in the 58th minutes.
Effort by opponents to get equaliser proved abortive as Chekas United defenders and goalie stood their ground as they ran away with the victory.
Earlier before the Chekas United, Smart City walloped Grace Sports Channel Football Club 4-1 in the opening match.
