Chairman of Surulere Regional League, Salau Abiodun spoke extensively in an interview with Sports247 about the Legend Cup, reasons behind the name ‘Legend Cup’, as well as the aim of the tournament.
Salau Abiodun said the aim of the tournament is to help scout for future Legends for Nigeria as well as for Agents who ought to visit Nigeria but due to the Pandemic and the inactiveness of our league, they weren’t able to do so, while other leagues in Europe had started. The Tournament enables them (The agent/Scout) to scout for potential football legend while our league is yet to commence.
“What we are trying to do is that, because of this covid 19, we have not been able to start our league, and then those agents that are supposed to be here to watch the first season of the league and know who and who to work with. Now we are complaining about it, we don’t have any other excuse, since the other leagues have started, and we will find a way to start up something. That one now prompts us to at least bring in an idea of this Legend Cup, so when they are coming, we will entertain them and let them see what we are all about and then see the good players that we have. That is why we are doing this”.
The Chairman while still speaking with Sports 247, spoke about the reason behind the Name ” Legend Cup ” by saying that it is because the Competition is aimed at producing football Legends for Nigeria as well as all around the globe.
“The Surulere Regional league has produced a lot of players, having just started recently. In the first season, we have about six (6) players outside doing well now. The highest goal scorer before he left, now doing well outside. We have a lot of them and we believe that we are going out there, to produce Legends for Nigeria,” he said.
