The signing of the agreement document between two parties have set the ball rolling for the 2021 Abeokuta 10km road race coupled with the Valuejet and IAU Africa Ultra race championship tagged, “ Remo 2021” for the youth. The good times are here with Suzuki unveiled as the official tour view for the events as the partner promised empowerment, sports promotion at its best while adding values to the lives of Nigerian sportsmen and women via meaningful engagement of the youths.
General Manager, CFAO Motors, Aissarou Diouf said during the agreement signatories meeting, “last year, I met Nilayo when he was organizing the marathon of Lagos and we were wowed. Why we are on it is because it’s matching with all our ambition in terms of the development of the brands in Nigeria.”
“We are coming with value, for value marathon event and to be a very big actor on the sport in Nigeria”, she emphasized.
For the organizers, Nigeria is set to better their last year’s performance after the country was ranked 9th best in the world after another masterpiece of the road marathon race.
Present at the meeting was also Yusuf Ali, General Manager, Abeokuta Marathon & IAU AFRICA ULTRA RACE who revealed that “For next year marathon, it will be better because Lagos has been picked as one of the Olympic qualifiers so runners can actually come to Lagos and qualify for Olympic games come February 13 as this is a plus for us. We want to explore everything possible but at the same time, it means we must deploy a lot of gadgets on the road because it’s an Olympic qualifier, you must time every finisher at the race.”
The leading organizer, Bukola Olopade said that the Abeokuta 10km race is a fun race but also with an international touch,” If you can spend money on frivolous things, you should be able to spend money to enjoy a day that promises to be a very fantastic day just running and having fun.”
“For the IAU event, it’s an ultra-race for top runners from all over Africa, it’s just an African Championship. The winners will be winners for Africa and will be crowned as African champion but we are having a 5km to ensure that fun runners also enjoy that particular beautiful day.”
The 10km Abeokuta marathon is scheduled for 23rd of November 2021 while the IAU African Championship will take place on the 3rd December in Remo, Ogun State.
