The qualification of Central African Republic and Congo Brazzaville from the UNIFFAC Zonal Competition has completed the list of countries that will compete in next year’s TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2023 next year.
The TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2023 will be played between 19 February and 11 March 2023.
The qualified countries are hosts Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Benin, Senegal, The Gambia, Uganda, South Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia, Central African Republic and Congo.
UNIFFAC Zonal Qualifier:
Central African Republic, who had beaten DR Congo and suffered defeat to Congo Brazzaville, defeated the defending champions of the UNIFFAC Zone Cameroon to secure their qualification, with six points.
Youngster Juvenal Steven Pougui scored the only goal in the second half. Cameroon who reached the quarter finals of the last edition of the TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON in Mauritania, have now crashed out with just two points.
Central African Republic was eliminated at the quarter finals of the previous edition by The Gambia. They have another opportunity to right the wrongs.
In the other game, host Congo Brazzaville defeated DR Congo 3-0, to qualify with seven points.
Congo Brazzaville and Central African Republic will now meet on 18 December in the UNIFFAC Zone finals.
The two side have now completed the list of teams qualified for the 2023 TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON, joining hosts Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Benin, Senegal, The Gambia, Uganda, South Sudan, Mozambique, and Zambia who had already secured their spots for the competition.
