Shortlisted from over 5,000 nominations spanning 89 countries, Kayode Adewale stands as a shining example of educational excellence.
The $1 million Global Teacher Prize, now in its ninth year, is the largest and most prestigious award of its kind, highlighting the transformative role of teachers in shaping lives.
Kayode’s recognition reflects his tireless dedication to innovation in teaching and his inspirational impact on students and colleagues.
A trailblazer in Ogun State’s Educational Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA), he has developed training materials and traveled across the state to empower educators in adopting technology in classrooms.
His accomplishments have garnered widespread recognition, including being named the 2nd Runner-Up for Best Teacher in Nigeria in 2023. Beyond national borders, Kayode has represented Ogun State and Nigeria on international platforms such as the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Fellowship (USA) and the Limitless Global Educators Program in Houston, Texas.
His global influence includes collaborating with educators worldwide to translate PhET simulations into multiple languages for the University of Colorado.
Through his Transformation5130 Project, Kayode has trained over 5,000 teachers alongside educators from countries like the USA, Colombia, and Brazil.
This initiative has enriched professional development across diverse teaching communities, leveraging knowledge from his Fulbright experience.
Another groundbreaking effort, the Ogun517GoToSpace Program, developed in collaboration with the Limitless Space Institute (USA), introduced Space Exploration Clubs to all 517 secondary schools in Ogun State, making it the first state in Nigeria to integrate space science into its curriculum.
Kayode has also revolutionized mathematics education by teaching the subject in local languages, such as Yoruba and Hausa, to enhance comprehension in underserved communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he ensured uninterrupted learning by teaching mathematics on OGTV and producing educational content consistently since 2020.
This recognition not only celebrates Kayode’s achievements but also underscores Ogun State and Nigeria’s prominence in global education innovation.
His journey inspires hope as we anticipate his advancement to the Top 10 and, ultimately, the possibility of becoming the first teacher in West Africa to win the Global Teacher Prize.
