The event is scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Indoor Basketball Hall of the iconic M.K.O Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This year’s invitational taekwondo tournament promises to be a showcase of young athletic talent, with a total of 100 youth athletes set to participate.
Among them, 64 men and 36 women from six prominent Abuja-based taekwondo clubs have confirmed their presence.
The event holds the official sanction of the FCT Taekwondo Association, ensuring its status as a significant sporting occasion.
One unique aspect of the tournament is its innovative electronic display scoring system, which is designed to enhance accuracy and transparency in judging.
The competition itself will adopt a round-robin format, ensuring that every participant gains valuable exposure and experience in the arena.
However, the CCSF isn’t stopping at just the sports action. The organizers put a great deal of effort into making the event a memorable experience for both athletes and spectators.
In addition to the taekwondo matches, attendees can engage in a variety of fun activities.
These include morning aerobic/fitness sessions to kick-start the day, engaging table tennis matches, a dedicated area for video game enthusiasts, and even a bouncing castle for the younger attendees to enjoy.
To tantalize the taste buds of the audience, a selection of vendors will be on hand to provide delicious food and refreshing drinks.
Adding a rhythmic ambiance to the proceedings, DJs will keep the energy high with lively music throughout the day.
And to bring the event to an exciting close, an outdoor dance-off competition will take center stage, offering FCT residents a dynamic blend of sports and entertainment.
Chika Chukwumerije, the founder of the CCSF and an Olympic medalist from the 2008 Beijing Games, emphasized the significance of merging entertainment with sports for the growth of grassroots sports in Nigeria.
He stated, “We want to organize an event that anybody would want to come to on a Saturday morning in a summer holiday.
The public longs for and deserves these kinds of programs regularly, and sports has always been perfectly poised to satisfy this demand, while simultaneously developing sports at the grassroots level.”
Chukwumerije took a sabbatical following his successful guidance of Nigeria’s second-ever female taekwondo Olympian, Elizabeth Anyanacho, to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
His foundation’s current objective is to provide a platform for young athletes to shine and to ensure that both competitors and spectators have an exceptional and memorable experience at the sixth CCSF Invitational Taekwondo Open.
