The main draw of the 41ST Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Tournament will begin today following the conclusion of the qualifying series at the weekend.
The main draw begins with the round of 64, including the men and women’s singles, men and women’s doubles and the wheelchair categories. Top of the bills is the men’s singles and women’s singles, which offers N.7 million star prize money for the winners.
The defending champions, Sylvester Emmanuel and Sarah Adegoke have some of the hottest stars in the Nigerian circuit eyeing their crowns.
For instance, players’ representative on the board of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Abdulmumuni Babalola says nothing will stop him from lifting the 2019 CBN Senior Tennis trophy this term. Imeh, Clifford Enosoregbe, Christian Paul, Sunday Maku and Michael Michael, as well as Henry Atseye, John Otu, Shehu Lawal and Sunday Igbinovia, are also interested in the men’s crown.
In the women category, the women’s singles champions will have enough fight in her hands with Charity Agugbom, Blessing Samuel, Aanu Aiyegbusi, Ronke Akingbade, Blessing Anuna, Margaret Oladunjoye and junior sensation, Oyinlomo Quadri all interested in deposing her.
NTF Secretary-General, Mariam Akande has disclosed that a total of seven players (four men and three women) were granted wide card entries to feature in the main draw.
