Bayelsa Queens defied the odds following a slow start to the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League tournament in Morocco after being stunned in thier debut game loosing 2-1 against Mamelodi Sundowns which very much looked like the end of the road for them but they made an incredible bounce back and they are closer to the finals than ever having turned the tides in thier favor. Now, can they go on to the very end of the richest women competition in Africa? It remains unknown.
Giving it another shot, the Yenagoa based outfit bounced back from the opening defeat to Trounce Congolese team, TP Mazembe in a 3-0 scoreline, a win that brought relief if they were to go further in the competition.
Alongside hosts, ASFAR, title holders Mamelodi Sundowns, Simba Queens, Bayelsa Queens have booked CAF Women’s Champions League semis spot following thier win against Egyptian side Wadi Delga to scale through.
The much-anticipated semi-finals will be played on Wednesday, 09 November 2022 at the Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat with finals slated for November 13.
For the semi-finals, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa will face Simba Queens FC of Tanzania while ASFAR of Morocco will face Bayelsa Queens FC of Nigeria.
Winners of this prestigious competition will walk away with 400,000 USD, the runner-up 250,000 USD, the semi-finalists 200,000 USD each.
In addition, the third-placed group winners will receive USD 150,000, while the fourth-placed team will receive a participation bonus of USD 100,000.
