CAFWCL: Edo Queens Take Charge of WAFU B Group As AS-Garde Nationale Takes Five

Nigeria Women champions, Edo Queens started their CAF Women Champions League , WAFU B Qualifiers on a winning note by defeating AS Garde of Niger Republic by 5-0 on Sunday, Sports 247 reports.

The match which was played in Bouake in Ivory Coast saw the Nigeria coasted to a two goal lead at half with midfield maestro Emem Essien opened scoring in the 35th minute before team captain Suliat Abideen converted from the penalty spot a minute into the added time of the first half.

Edo took total control of the match in the second half, continuing from where they stopped at the break as Ilivieda extended the lead through Free kick , Moses Esther made four before the Emem Essien put a lid on the floodgate she opened by scoring the fifth goal of the match.

The superlative performance of the team takes them to the top as the other game in the group ended goalless between Hassacas Ladies of Ghana and As Entincelles of Burkina Faso.

A win for Edo Queens in their next game against Hassacas Ladies of Ghana will guarantee them a place in the Semi Final before the final group game against AO Enticelles.

The match will be Wednesday 14 August 2024 by 4 pm Nigeria time at the Stade de Bouake.

The WAFU B tournament serves as the qualifier for the 2024 CAF Women Champions League as the overall winner will take the sole ticket allocated to the West Africa B – region.
