Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma has praised the character, composure and bravery of his players in the hard fought victory over Wydad Casablanca while also assuring fans of a good fight for qualification in the second leg in Morocco.
The defending NPFL champions won 2-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt to get the edge going into the second leg of second preliminary round in Morroco.
“I want to appreciate the players that gave us the victory although it was a hard earned one, a very difficult one, we give it to the Morroco based side, it was a good fight,” he applauded.
“Scoring us early in the game almost destabilized us, I commend the players for thier courage, composure and comportment, they showed character and that’s what we are expecting again.”
On the team’s plan going to Morocco for the second leg, he stated that the team won’t sit back and soak in pressure, if you don’t score goals, you can’t win a match, now we have won 2-1, it’s not enough.”
“We need to score goals to cancel the one they scored here, it’s our plan to attack but we have to be cautious.”
“The game is tight but I’m very optimistic. It’s a game of football and anything can happen. If you look at the standard of game played, Wydad wasn’t far better than us.”
“All we need do is summon courage and make tactical plans on how to play them in Morroco.”
“Remember we are playing against the defending champions in a stadium with voracious fans and most times will use laser lights or use pressure on you, we must attack, who said we can’t score, we will score,” he concluded.
