Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma has debunked talks of lack of fitness in the squad following thier first leg big victory against Wydad Athletic Club while also revealing the situation behind his goalkeeper selection.
Eguma posited that there was no fitness concern saying that his team showed respect to the opponent but it was expected.
With the goal conceded early, he stated that they should have gotten an infringement call but the referee didn’t give it so it was not a fitness problem.
On having different goalkeepers against Watanga FC and Wydad AC, “its a tactical plan, Watanga and Wydad Casablanca are two different teams and both have different pedigrees so we found the goalkeeper in form to play,” he clarified.
“Saidu is good, we are not saying the rest aren’t good, we are just considering their level of performance before now.”
“Sochima was better, I don’t think we would have conceded a goal if not the offside goal they scored,” he justified the selection.
Going into the second leg, Eguma revealed he is expecting a big fight, “it’s a difficult terrain but I know we shouldn’t be written off cause it’s not yet over.”
“We know we have a big fight ahead and I’m assuring the fans that we will not go there to sleep but work and put them under severe pressure to see that we get our way through,” he assured.
