Super Eagles defender, Olisa Ndah is back at the fortress of his former club Akwa United, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium for the CAF Confederation Cup final billed to be played today.
The 24-year-old centre-back will lead his South African club, Orlando Pirates to ending their 27 years of wait for continental glory. Pirates will face the Moroccan side and 2020 champions, RSB Berkane.
Orlando Pirates’ last continental trophy was in 1995 but we’re close to winning another in 2015 when they lost in the CAF Confederation Cup finals against Étoile Sportive du Sahel.
Speaking to reporters after Orlando Pirates’ training yesterday, Ndah made it known to the press that he is in high spirits ahead of the game. “Yeah, it feels so good, firstly I am playing at home, I’m really happy and proud of the team for how far we’ve come, we just have to crown the efforts.”
“Yeah! I’ve learnt a lot playing there. I have learnt more tactics, I’ve learnt so much, the coach has been wonderful to me, the management and everyone. It has really helped push me to change my game to a certain state. I’m really happy playing there and it has improved my game.” Ndah said when quizzed about the impacts of the move to South Africa on his career.
Ahead of the finals slated for 8 pm today, the defender said he is positive and hopeful they get to win.
“Yeah, we are so hungry, so important because a lot of people speak about how good the South African league is and for some time now, the Northern part of Africa dominated. We just have to win and put smiles on the fans.”
The 2021 NPFL champion urged Akwa Ibomites and football lovers to troop into the stadium in their numbers to support Orlando Pirates as he believes it will be an important factor in the encounter.
“It is so important for the team because my team will need the support they can get now. Fans coming out, putting a lot of messages out there. I’m so happy and overwhelmed to be here being at home, I hope it brings victory to us also.”
