The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Dr Patrice Motsepe joins the global community in mourning the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis, the revered leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Dr Patrice Motsepe said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, who was an exceptional and outstanding symbol of peace, humility and compassion. He dedicated his life to serving our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church, humanity and to uplifting the poor and marginalised.
On behalf of the Member Associations of CAF who represent 54 African countries, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the hundreds of millions of Catholics in Africa, Argentina and worldwide, as well as to the millions of individuals whose lives he touched and whom he inspired.
We have also been informed that Pope Francis had a special passion for football and recognized its unique ability to unite people from different racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.”
CAF joins the world in remembering Pope Francis who was a true advocate for humanity and whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
