CAF Picks Two Nigerian Referees For 2024 WAFU B AFCON Duties

The Confederation of African Football has selected two Nigerian Referees; Abdusalam Kassim and Mahmood Yaqub for 2024 WAFU B U20 Tourney, Sports247 reports.

The championship which serves as qualifiers for CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Togo later in the month.

According to the Nigeria Whistlers, two match officials from Nigeria are FIFA badge and will join other selected referees from the West Africa Zone B to officiate the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations WAFU B Qualifiers 2024.

In a statement posted by the official voice of Nigeria referees on their Facebook page, reveals that Abdulsalam Kazzim will be on as Center Referee (CR)while Mahmood Yaqub will be handling the line as Assistant Referee ( AR).

The post reads:

“Information available to Nigeria Whistlers has it that Abdusalam Kazzim and Mammoud M Yakubu have been selected to officiate at the 2024 WAFU B Tourney.

“Kassim Abdusalam, a very outstanding Referee from Zamfara who had featured in CAF tournaments before now will be on as a Referee, while fast rising Bauchi based Mahmood Yakubu who is enjoying topflight action so far in the continent is Assistant Referee.” The statement reads in parts.

This adds to the number of referees being considered by CAF for duties on the continent in recent times as they are expected to give a good account of themselves upholding the integrity of the game by being a fair and justice arbiter through the correct interpretation of the laws of the game.

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria will be competing with six other teams from West Africa B region, for a place in the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations later in the month.
