The 10-man shortlist for the 2019 Confederation of African Football Player of the Year has been announced.
The Liverpool duo of Sadio Mane (Senegal) and Mohammed Salah (Egypt) are once again looming massively as the front favourites – with Manchester City and Algeria’s African Champion Riyad Mahrez in with a big challenge.
African Player of the Year 2019 Shortlist:
Sadio Mane (Senegal & Liverpool)
Riyad Mahrez (Algeria & Manchester City)
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon & Arsenal)
Odion Ighalo (Nigeria & Shanghai Shenhua)
Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Liverpool)
Hakim Ziyech (Morocco & Ajax)
André Onana (Cameroon & Ajax)
Youcef Belaili (Algeria & Ahli Jeddah)
Ismail Bennacer (Algeria & AC Milan)
Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal & Napoli).
2018’s African Player of the Year was the Egyptian prince Salah. The Liverpool goal machine had taken the gong ahead of Mane and Aubameyang. This year’s looks like Salah and Aubameyang could fall out the top three to make way for Mahrez and Koulibaly.

Victor Osimhen
2019’s winner will be revealed during the ceremony on 7 January 2020 at Citadel Azure, Hurghada, Egypt.
