Players and coaches of the Nigerian Professional Football League side, Plateau United have expressed confidence in playing in the CAF confederations cup group stages as they get ready to welcome Al Akhdar.
After crashing out of the CAF Champions League, attention is now switched to the second cadre of CAF competition which the team is eager to play in the group stage.
Coach of the side, Fidelis Ilechukwu has hinted at the preparation level of the team as they get ready to play host to Libyan side, Al Akhdar for Wednesday’s last preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
“We have been preparing very well for the game. We have gotten to the point where we have to focus only on the result we are willing to get. We have also made sure that our preparation is well enough to make our players deliver. We are working on them.
“Playing CAF competitions is different from the NPFL and they must understand that they must take opportunities because it’s very important. We are patiently waiting for Wednesday”
After crashing out of the Champions League, the Nigerian Premier League runner-up will now ply their trade in the second-tier level of continental football.
The Tactician has also stated how important it is to make it to the group stage of the Confederations Cup, saying that’s the ultimate goal of Plateau United.
Rivers United will play host to the Libyans at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja at 4 pm Nigerian time. Compatriot Rivers United will also do battle with Al Nasr on Wednesday, 2 pm Nigerian time.
