Following Rivers United’s 2-1 defeat to Ghana’s Dream FC in the CAF Confederation Cup, Technical Manager Stanley Eguma shared his insights on the disappointing outcome.
Eguma expressed his disappointment, citing the team’s loss of concentration as a pivotal factor in the match.
“It was a sad experience. We prepared well to get a good result; unfortunately, we did not get any points. And the scoreline does not reflect the game well because we were in charge in that game from the beginning, and along the line, our players lost concentration and conceded the first goal,” lamented Eguma in his post-match analysis.

The manager highlighted the team’s efforts to stage a comeback in the second half, acknowledging their resilience despite conceding another goal against the run of play.
He noted missed opportunities and a contentious refereeing decision, emphasizing a potential game-changing moment that went unaddressed.
“I think it was a great experience for us, like a big lesson to wake up and then plan better for the next games,” Eguma remarked, recognizing the valuable lessons learned from the defeat.
Eguma also addressed the scheduling challenges affecting the team’s participation in both CAF and NPFL competitions. He expressed readiness for the NPFL games, clarifying, “We are also ready for the NPFL games; it’s just that the CAF games are taking up our time, resulting in the postponement of our NPFL games. We have to face the CAF matches first before coming back to face the NPFL games.”
The disappointment in the CAF Confederation Cup serves as motivation for Rivers United to regroup, learn from the experience, and refocus on upcoming challenges, both domestically and continentally.
Eguma’s strategic approach and commitment to improvement highlight the team’s resilience in the face of setbacks.
