One of Nigeria’s representatives this year’s CAF Champions League, Plateau United Football Club of Jos has landed in Dar Es Salaam ahead of Saturday’s CAF Champions League against the host, Simba Sports Club of Tanzania.
The team which touched down at the Julius Nyerere International Airport at exactly 2:13 local time and 12′:13pm Nigerian time were received by a Nigerian Embassy official and a former winner of Big Brother Africa, Kevin Pam who is an indigene of Plateau State
After the usual immigration clearance and other formalities at the Airport, a mild drama later ensued as the process suspiciously became slow all aimed at frustrating the Plateau United team
Sunday Adetunji who is joining Plateau United from a Hungarian side, Slavia Prague was denied clearance under the guise of not having his passport stamped by relevant authorities in Nigeria.
This resulted in a war of words between some members of the delegation and the Tanzanian immigration officials before the issue was finally resolved after the Nigeria Embassy staff in Dar Es Salaam intervened.
Immediately the team alighted from the Airport, the delegation were surprised when fans of a rival club, Young Africans came in a sizeable number chanting the name of Plateau United and assuring the delegation of massive support in the match against Simba SC.
The head coach of the team, Abdu Maikaba later led the players to the stadium, to have a feel of the pitch at 5 pm local time and 3 pm Nigerian time, when the match will be played tomorrow at the Mkapa Stadium.
The delegation later underwent the mandatory Covid-19 test, as stipulated by the Confederations of African Football before every international match is played within the continent.
