CS Sfaxien of Tunisia head coach Ruud Krol has stated that Enugu Rangers deserved the draw they got away from home in the CAF Confederations Cup match at the Stade Taeib Mhiri in Tunisia on Wednesday.
Sfaxien went into the group stage matchday two fixture on the backdrop of an away win against neighbors Etoile du Sahel in their first match with a win against the Nigerian side certain to place them in a comfortable position on the group table.
Reacting to the result, Krol stated that they played against a more determined side who were difficult to break down. “It was a good game. We played against a good team and they were well prepared. We gave them too much space in the first half but did much better in the second half. We secured the lead but made a mistake after.”
It took Enugu Rangers just to minutes to restore parity in the match after the home side took the lead in the 71st minute through Alaa Marzouki. Beninois defender Ousmane Pape Sane scored for the away side in the 73rd minute.
Sfaxien coach stated that he was disappointed with the defensive attitude of the boys which led to the equalizer. “We left players unattended on the right side and the foul paved the way. We fought to win but weren’t successful. That is football, sometimes you play well and you don’t win, and other times it’s the opposite”
Currently second on the table on four points, CS Sfaxien will welcome Salitas FC of Burkina Faso in their next group game.
