Three first half goals ensured we lost at the Alphonse Massamba-Debat Stadium on Sunday evening in CAF Confederation’s Cup match day 1 group game
We were never really at the races in Brazzaville, and found ourselves three goals down midway through the first half.
Coach Stanley Eguma made some changes in the second half and we at last began to create chances which we failed to convert , with Ebube Duru’s penalty miss in the 57th minutes capping off a frustrating night of football.
It had been a promising opening 30 minutes before the hosts took the lead against the run of play with Wunda Ngana reacting quickest to slot the ball in.
Less than 3 minutes later we fell further behind. J. Ngombe was well positioned to tap home a finish beyond the diving Seidu Mutawakilu for 2-0.
The hosts were well on top by now, and added a third with D. Massoumou from the penalty spot.
Coach Stanley Eguma made 2 changes after the half-time break, bringing Malachi Ohawume on for Chiamaka Madu and Lawrence Edward for Temple Emekayi
We needed to change our approach as well as the personnel though – and early in the second half Ukeme Williams won for us a penalty kick after he was tripped in the box. Goalkeeper Dhody Foutou guessed right to save the spot kick taken by Ebube Duru.
Malachi Ohawume saw his goal rightly ruled off for offside in the 65th minute.
We’re back at home this weekend as we take on ASEC Mimosa of Ivory Coast on Sunday at the Nest of Champions Uyo in a 4pm kick off matchday 2 of the CAF TotalEnergies Confederation’s Cup group B fixture.
