CAAF: Nigerian Amputee Football Technical Director Expresses Joy Over Timely Preparation

Technical Director of the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation Victor Onyekachukwu Nwenwe has expressed delight over the long notice given to participating federations in the next African Amputee Football Cup slated for 3rd to 9th November, 2023.

The Confederation of African Amputee Football, CAAF, and Interested Group, have earlier given a notice to African countries’ Amputee Football Federations which is perceived to be a timely and long one, that the tournament will now be held in November and as well, the Egyptian Paralympic Committee and the Egyptian Amputee Football Federation will host the African Amputee Football Cup come November, 2023.

Reacting to the seemingly favourable news, Technical Director of the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation Victor Onyekachukwu Nwenwe, in an interview with sports247naija, has shown delight over the long notice given by CAAF. “I am excited that the information about the All African Para-games and the CAAF Championship came to us on time.

“This will give us the platform to start early preparation. Because of time, we were not able to perform well in that last African Championship held in Tanzania. That was because we had a short preparation. The team was kept in camp for just ten days and as a result, it reflected in our performance so we paid the price by not qualifying for the World Cup. With the new executive onboard, lead by Mr Paul Maduakor as the president, who is working round the clock to see that there is a lot of improvement in the Nigerian Amputee Football team, I am so happy and have the conviction that we will start preparation on time.

With the glamour enjoyed by football in Nigeria because the Special Eagles are a force to reacorn with in Africa, Sports247 Naija questioned how easy selection is and if the para-football team has enjoyed same glamour in Nigeria and in Africa at large. This is what Victor Onyekachukwu Nwenwe has to say. “One of our greatest challenge is finance. We also have a competition at hand that will be organized by the president which will take place in the first week of May, 2023. We want to use this to select the national team players and this will be across the six geopolitical zones

“From there we will be able to select the best legs that we will keep in camp before the Para-games. I am so convinced that with the new era, we are going to go places and relaunch the Nigeria Amputee Football team and take our place in Africa”
