Buruj Sports Academy round off their tour of the United Kingdom with an impressive 2-1 victory over St. Joseph FC and a 1-1 draw versus Pentwyn Dynamos in the challenge title matches in the youth category of the 2019 Welsh International Super Cup on which came to a close Sunday in Cardiff.

A goal apiece off the boots of Akuba Ignatius and Samuel Akinmusin saw off the challenge of St. Joseph FC who the Nigerian representatives have earlier defeated with the same scoreline in the group stage, while Samuel scored his second goal of the tourney against Pentwyn Dynamos before the home team equalised in the closing stages to end the second match 1-1.
The Buruj Boys who lost the semifinal game against Cardiff And Vale College Academy on Friday refused to go down despite conceding an early goal against St. Joseph FC as they rallied to turn the game around with two excellent goals despite the injury worries that have depleted the team.
That win put them in contention for the trophy which their efforts deserved and the draw against Pentwyn only sealed their final day effort.
It would be recalled that in the English Super Cup held in Manchester about a week ago, Buruj Sports Academy emerged as a finalist but Rochdale FC ended their dreams of defending the title they won last year following their 5-3 loss.
In his overview of the tour so far, the CEO of the academy was full of gratitude to God and certain individuals that made it possible. He said useful lessons have been learnt by the players and management and promised that the next trip will be more rewarding and memorable than this one.
“We thank God for everything. Even though we couldn’t achieve our main objectives in terms of trophy or title, we learned a lot from this trip and it will help us to package the next one. ”
“I also thank our financiers and supporters and our parents for their commitment to making the trip a dream realised. Hopefully, we will go back home, learn and prepare for the next one, ” he said.
