He cited logistical issues, beautification of the stadium, and scheduling constraints as reasons for their absence on the first day of the tournament.
However, BugaWin made a vibrant entry on the second day, adorning the stadium with their posters and deploying ushers to facilitate registrations and participation in a raffle draw with enticing prizes, including recharge cards, gift cards, and cash.
Otunba Charles expressed his optimism about the tournament’s success, stating, “Today is even a better day, it’s sunny. A lot of people are still coming into the stadium, which means we’ll have a larger audience when we conduct the raffle draws and present cheques to the MVP. Everything is ready. We brought the trophies yesterday, and they were displayed. We have today, tomorrow, and the rest of the week. So, we are still in the game.”
He elaborated on BugaWin’s strategy to integrate their program into the tournament’s schedule, saying, “This game is managed by the technical committee and match officials. Eight games are being played. When they reach the middle of the game, they’ll create a 10-minute break for us to conduct our activities.
After the eighth game, we also have time for our program. During both time slots, we will carry out a raffle draw and award prizes.”
When asked about BugaWin’s future plans with the Lagos FA or involvement in corporate social responsibility (CSR), Otunba Charles indicated strategic thinking. He emphasized the desire not merely to sponsor and disappear but to contribute to the growth of sports.
He expressed enthusiasm for the talent displayed in the pre-season tournament, stating, “We believe this is where to identify talents. We want talents to showcase themselves before the league starts.
We are offering prizes for the MVP every day. Additionally, we envision working with Lagos FA to establish Lagos academicals. With Lagos academicals, we can compete with other states. BugaWin is looking at long-term engagement.”
BugaWin is already the official partner and sponsor of the Black Stallions, Nigeria’s national rugby football team, having sponsored them in international tournaments in Zimbabwe and Mauritius.
Otunba Charles emphasized BugaWin’s commitment to long-term development, believing in Nigeria’s potential to become world champions in rugby with sustained effort and investment. He concluded, “Miracles do not happen in a day. You have to plant the seed, water it, nourish it before you can harvest it, and that is what BugaWin is all about. Long term.”
