The Edo State Football Association, organizers of the inaugural Bright Osayi Samuel Under-13 Football Tournament, has scheduled a press briefing and presentation of trophies and other items for July 11, 2024.

In an interview at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo FA Chairman Fred Newton Erhunmwunse announced that the tournament will run from July 30th to the end of August in Benin City, featuring 64 teams from across Edo State’s three senatorial districts.

“We are prepared for the maiden edition of the Bright Osayi Samuel Football Tournament for under-13 boys in the state,” said Erhunmwunse.

“We will begin with a press briefing, presentation of trophies and other items, followed by a media parley with the organizers (Edo FA) and the cup donor/sponsor, here at the media centre of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.”

Erhunmwunse added that stakeholders and sports journalists from across Nigeria will attend the event, expressing enthusiasm for the tournament’s commencement.

Nigerian Super Eagles and Fenerbahçe star Bright Osayi-Samuel visited Benin City in early June 2024 with his parents, meeting with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who was also in the city at the time.

The young, talented Nigerian international, who started playing street football in the UK at age 11, expressed his delight in returning to his roots and his commitment to giving back to society through the tournament.

Osayi-Samuel noted the tournament’s goal of identifying, nurturing, and developing young talents for future challenges.

Bright Osayi-Samuel, hailing from Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State, has pledged his full support to ensure the children benefit greatly from the tournament.

Meanwhile, Erhunmwunse noted that there are numerous prizes for the winners, including trophies, medals, individual awards for best coach, best goalkeeper, fair play team, and more.

He encouraged participating teams to visit the Edo FA secretariat for additional information about the tournament.
