Nigeria’s women’s amputee football team, the Special Falcons, has been drawn into Group C alongside Ecuador, the USA, and Ukraine in the inaugural Women’s World Cup Amputee Football draw, just concluded in Bogota.
This groundbreaking event marks the first time countries are coming together to compete in the women’s division of the sport.

The Special Falcons are currently deep in preparations for this historic tournament, holding a close campaign in Abuja where they are working tirelessly to sharpen their skills ahead of the competition.
The World Cup will run from November 4 to November 10, 2024, in Barranquilla Colombia, bringing together the best women’s amputee football teams from across the globe.
Nigeria faces a formidable challenge in Group C. The USA and Ukraine are highly regarded in international football, while Ecuador is expected to bring its unique South American flair to the pitch.
The Special Falcons, however, are optimistic about their chances and remain focused on representing Nigeria with pride.

“Our women are warriors, and we are confident they will make the country proud. They are not just athletes; they are symbols of hope and inspiration,” stated head coach Munkwoba Tala Gomam during a press briefing in Abuja.
The competition is divided into three groups: Group A features host nation Colombia, Brazil, Poland, and Cameroon, while Group B consists of Peru, Haiti, England, and Kenya. Each team will be vying for top positions to advance to the knockout stages and eventually, the final match.
