In a remarkable achievement for Nigerian Armwrestling, four exceptional athletes have been invited to represent the country at the West African Invitational Championship in Accra, Ghana, on March 15, 2024.
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation extended this prestigious invitation following the athletes’ outstanding performances at the National Open Armwrestling Championship in Ibadan. The selected athletes are:
Men’s Category:
Tuesday, Emmanuel Inakedor (70kg)
Obilom Steve Chibueze (90kg+)
Women’s Category:
Afeniforo Adefunke Adejoke (65kg)
Uba Happiness Ngozi (80kg+)
The Nigerian team is expected to depart the country on Thursday, March 13, and return on Monday, March 17.
This international opportunity is a major boost for Nigerian Armwrestling, as the country continues to establish itself as a dominant force in the sport.
President of the Nigeria Armwrestling Federation, Engr. Samuel Jackson, praised the athletes, saying:
“This invitation is proof that our athletes are among the best in Africa. Their performances in Ibadan were incredible, and we are confident they will make Nigeria proud in Ghana. This will also serve as a great preparation for the upcoming African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja.”
The athletes, thrilled by the opportunity, expressed their excitement and determination. Obilom Steve Chibueze, who dominated the +90kg category, said:
“I am honored to be selected. This is a great opportunity to compete internationally and showcase Nigerian strength. I will give my best and bring home victory.”
Afeniforo Adefunke Adejoke, who won two gold medals at the National Open Championship, added:
