Bayelsa United FC have been fined the sum of one million naira by the Nigerian National League for the club’s breach of NNL Rule in their match against Remo Stars FC on August 13.
In the NNL encounter last Friday, Bayelsa United protested against the referee’s decision and halted the match on two separate incidents in the first half.
The match was later called off at 0:0 after only 29 minutes played with the away side refusing to continue the match on the ground of insufficient security.
A statement by the management of the Nigeria National League made available to Sports247 reads:
“Given the provisions of Article 14.8, 17.2, 14.9 of the rules guiding the League, the NNL hereby decides as follows;
1. That Bayelsa Utd FC is hereby fined the sum of N500,000 for challenging the decision of the Referee in line with Article 14.8 of NNL Rule book.
2. That Bayelsa Utd FC is hereby fined the sum of N500, 000 for refusing to continue with the match on the ground of insufficient security when match officials have confirmed the availability of adequate security at the stadium, in line with Article 14.9 of NNL Rule book.”
The ruling also awards Remo Stars three points and three goals for the failure of Bayelsa Utd to continue with the match and the officials of the club were warned to be of good behavior at match venues in the future or face penalties from the NNL.
Bayelsa Utd have been given the right to appeal the verdict to the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation within the next 48 hours.
