In a stunning display of dominance, Edo Queens have clinched the WAFU-B Women’s Championship, earning them a coveted spot in the 4th edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Nigerian side secured their qualification with a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC in the final, capping off a flawless campaign in the regional qualifiers.
Under the expert guidance of Coach Moses Aduku, Edo Queens have been a force to reckon with throughout the tournament.
Their journey began with a statement-making 5-0 thrashing of AS Garde from Niger, followed by an equally impressive 3-0 win over Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies. In a more tightly contested match, they edged out Burkina Faso’s Omni Etincelle with a 1-0 victory, showcasing their ability to grind out results when necessary.
The semi-final saw Edo Queens face local favorites Inter D’Abidjan in a tense encounter. Despite the pressure, the Queens prevailed with a 2-1 win, thanks to their resilience and tactical discipline, setting the stage for their ultimate test in the final.
Against Ainonvi FC, Edo Queens were in complete control from the outset. Suliat Abideen opened the scoring with a powerful shot that left the opposing goalkeeper with no chance. Emem Essien doubled the lead with a precise finish, while the third goal, a brilliant team effort, put the game beyond doubt.
