British boxer of Nigerian descent, Anthony Joshua has described his heavyweight world-title defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr a minor setback and vowed to reclaim his belts.
The 29-year old who was floored four times as Ruiz produced an upset to win in seven rounds at Madison Square Garden has described his loss as a test of character.
Speaking at a post-fight press conference, Joshua said, “Winning is everything. I am not going to sit here and say ‘losing is fine’. Not in my book. But if you do happen to lose, adjust and bounce back. But I do not condone losing in any form.”
Also, Joshua’s Promoter Eddie Hearn explained that a rematch is a “must win” as there are no other options with a rematch clause being part of the contract and may be set to take place in England.
“AJ will come back 100% and we will make the rematch in the UK in November or December,” Hearn stated.
Joshua lost the IBF, WBA and WBO world titles after the shocking defeat.
