Bosun Oniyedu, head coach of Skenty Football Academy has given his submission on growth in grassroots football as he outlines the need for grit, patience, and determination from both the players’ and coaches’ angle.

He admitted that the demands of grassroots football especially at a developmental stage can only be handled by someone who is determined as it’s easy to give up if one isn’t motivated enough.
“The name Skenty is a champion name and that’s what we are building on. It has been quite a good ride because this is a developmental process so we are still hoping for more,” he explained in a close discussion with Sports247.ng.
“We have a manager anyway that helps out financially which makes it kind of easier but nonetheless, I run a personal team ‘Mercy Tree’ and I know the cost and what’s expected.”
“It’s a different management, I work in both teams and the challenges are no different in terms of equipment, feeding while in camp, transportation, and player wellbeing”.

Bosun admitted that he’s working towards a higher goal which is to secure a top job in Nigeria’s top-flight league and beyond as it has been his dream for a very long.
Reminiscing on his player’s days although he didn’t play professionally, he stated that he had to quit earlier because he wasn’t making headway, unlike his colleagues who had a very good and productive career.
