Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has stated that he and his Bayer Leverkusen teammates are not under pressure to replicate last season’s outstanding performance.
Bayer Leverkusen had a stellar campaign, going unbeaten in 51 games and clinching their first Bundesliga title under coach Xabi Alonso.

They also triumphed in the DFB Pokal, defeating Kaiserslautern in the final, but narrowly missed a treble, losing to Atalanta in the competition’s final.
Despite the high expectations for the upcoming season, Boniface, who scored 21 goals and provided ten assists in 34 appearances last season, remains unfazed. The 23-year-old striker emphasized that the team is focusing on taking each game as it comes.
“We haven’t had a conversation about next season yet, but we take things step by step,” Boniface said on the Counter Attack podcast. “Our immediate focus is on the friendly games against Arsenal and Lens, not the Super Cup final against Stuttgart.”
Boniface acknowledged that other teams would be more motivated to defeat Bayer Leverkusen due to their achievements last season. However, he believes that the team’s success and the positive feelings it generated will drive them to perform well again.
“We know what we did last year and how good it felt. We want to experience that again,” he added. “I’m ready to give 100 percent to achieve what we did last year, and I’m sure the rest of the players feel the same.”
Bayer Leverkusen’s first game of the season is against Stuttgart in the German Super Cup on August 17, followed by an away fixture at Borussia Monchengladbach to kick off their Bundesliga campaign.
