Simone Reilly, a promising forward for Bohemian FC, has expressed her excitement and long-held dream of playing for the Nigerian national football team.
Reilly, who has been invited to join the provisional squad for the U-20 Women’s World Cup, is eager to seize the opportunity and represent Nigeria on the global stage.
Selected by head coach Chris Musa Danjuma, Reilly is one of 12 strikers chosen for the upcoming tournament in Colombia.
Born to an Irish father and a Nigerian mother, Reilly has always felt a deep connection to her Nigerian heritage and is determined to wear the green and white jersey with pride.
“I am extremely delighted with my experience in the Falconets setup,” Reilly shared. “It has always been my dream to play for Nigeria.
Despite being eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland, Nigeria has always been my first choice. I am working very hard to convince my coaches, and my goal is to make the final squad for the World Cup in Colombia.”
The Nigerian U-20 team, known as the Falconets, will face tough competition in Group D, which includes three-time winners Germany, Korea Republic, and Venezuela. The U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in three Colombian cities from August 31 to September 22.
Reilly’s inclusion in the provisional squad is a testament to her talent and dedication. As she strives to secure a spot in the final squad, she hopes to make a significant impact for Nigeria in the tournament. If selected, Reilly’s participation would mark a significant milestone in her career and fulfill her dream of representing Nigeria on the world stage.
