Blessing Okujuro of Orhiomwon LG was the fastest female athlete in the 100 metres race yesterday at the University of Benin sports complex.
The Queen of the track represented Orhionmwon Local government Area in the Edo games which is becoming more interesting.
Interestingly, Esan athletes dominated in the 400 m men event after Olympia Orukpe Erayokan of Esan Northeast, Salubi Emmanuel, Esan Central and Nathaniel Jeremiah picked gold, silver and bronze respectively for their councils.
In the 200 M men events, Simon Avokeoghene won gold for Orhiomwon while Isaac Roland and Isa Salihu settled for silver and bronze for Akoko-Edo and Esan Northeast respectively. In the women category, Obi Amarachukwu won gold for Esan Central, Blessing Ovwighoadjebre(Estsako East LG) came second while Osamuyimen Osato of Etsako Central came third.
Meanwhile, there were some surprises In the male category of 5000 M distant race as Balogun Hakeem of Akokoedo came from far behind to beat James Efe of Orhiomwon and Moses Edetanle(Esan West LG) to the game.
In the women category of the distance race, Shittu Adijat won gold for Egor. She earlier won silver in 800 m and
1500 silver on Tuesday.
Tajudeen Azeezat picked the second spot. She also won 10000 m for Akokoedo on Tuesday while the 3rd position went Oredo girl, Ese Otuyo. Ese Otuyo who is JSS 11 student of Oredo Girls Secondary School suffered exhaustion, thanks to the medical team led by Pharm Ome Aburime whose timely intervention saved what would have been bad news.
The Nigerian observer Investigation reveals that the12-year-old ESE Otuyo was yet to take breakfast before the 5000 M race at about 2:30 PM.
We further gathered that there have not been regular training for some of the athletes before now. No proper kits and welfare by some of the councils the represent.
