Billions Spent For Zero Medal” Obi Calls For Investigation of Nigeria’s Poor Paris 2024 Olympics Show

Peter Obi has described the poor showing of Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympics where the country spent 9 Billion Naira with no medal to show as unacceptable, reports Sports247.

The former Anambra State Governor, took to his verified X handle to pour his displeasure over what he called administrative recklessness and rascality which characterised Nigeria outing both on the field and outside of the field at the just concluded Paris 2024 Olympics.

He made a particular mention to the Favour Ofili exclusion from the Women 100 meter start list as well the Bike Borrowing ” saga of Nigeria sole Cyclist to the Olympic, Ese Ukpeseraye as well the case of Godson Brumen who was injured before games but he was still registered for the games but failed to show for his event.

The influential political leader of the Obidient movement queried the spending of 12 Billions on the games with nothing to show for it.

” We invested about N12 billion in this year’ s Olympics, which is almost twice the amount budgeted for the entire Ministry of Science and Technology for this year.”

” ‘How can one explain that a country like Jamaica spent less than 5% of what we spent on our contingents for the Paris Olympics 2024 and won as many as 6 medals. Yet with our huge financial investments and large contingent, we could not win even a single medal?”

He then call for for investigation of how the huge sum of money was spent with no medals for the huge investment.

” We must now interrogate the relationship between this huge investment and our dismal outcome.”

He sums up by describing the whole show as a shame and calls on the Government to investigate all the misconduct and ensure and serve out all the necessary punishment to prevent future reoccurrence.

” What a country! What a shame! When do we stop these rascalities that always rob our nation of golden opportunities to make a positive change? I call on the government to investigate theseq gross misconducts and
make sure that those responsible do not have the opportunity to do so again”.

” We must build a nation of discipline and commitment to duty, where competence and capacity reign. That is the New Nigeria we preach, and it is POssible”.

Nigeria registered 88 Athletes for the games and participated in 12 sports but returned home empty handed.
