Head coach of Katsina United, Abdullahi Biffo has hailed the Super Eagles’ win over Libya in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last Saturday but expressed reservation over the continuous neglect of domestic league players in the scheme of things at the national team.
Biffo says the idea of inviting just a player and not giving such person ample opportunity to play will kill the morale of any others on the domestic scene and even influence their productivity level once they know they won’t be given the opportunity to play.
“I think the Super Eagles performed so well with their comprehensive victory over Libya last weekend,” the former Giwa FC gaffer said to Sports247.ng.
“In as much as am happy with the result achieved, there is need to give the home based players hope in terms of invitation to the Super Eagles. I think players on the domestic scene should be treated with equality with the foreign based lads.”
“Only one local based player usually gets the chance to be invited to the senior national team. He doesn’t even usually play for the team. This will send bad signals to aspiring players in the Nigeria Professional Football League who intend to play for the Super Eagles in future.”
